Year 9 Unit 4 Summative Assessment

To conclude their unit on Macbeth, the Year 9 students will be choosing to speak from Macbeth’s or Lady Macbeth’s point of view in the form of a monologue. The students will be using the main events and critical decision making moments in the play to write their own monologue. This monologue will focus on their Significant Concept of “An understanding of how a person’s moral values can play a crucial role in determining the actions they take.” More information about the students’ task and the rubric and criteria can be found posted under Year 9 Unit 4 Assessment.

Year 8 Unit 4 Summative Assessment

The Year 8 students have been practicing their persuasive language through essays and formal debates. For their Summative Assessment, they will be working in teams to debate the topic of whether or not there should be the death penalty. This will take place next week and the students will be marked according to the posted Unit 4 Assessment criteria and rubric.

Year 10 Unit 3 Summative Assessment Posted

The Summative Assessment for the Year 10s has just been posted. This assessment will be a bit differently than others that they have completed this year. There will be four tasks but only one will be assessed using Criteria A. The four tasks will allow the students to demonstrate their understanding of the play, “Master Harold and the Boys” while using their creative skills with casting real people as the characters, creating a set, doing a dramatic reading and creating an advertisement poster. Hopefully we will be able to show some of the students’ work once they have completed it!

Year 8 and 9 Unit 3 Assessments Posted

The Year 8 and 9 students are currently working on their Summative Assessments for Unit 3. The Year 8s are writing an informative essay based on a topic that was discussed or mentioned in the novel, “A Wrinkle in Time”. The Year 9s are writing a feature article based on their Humanities topic on China and human migration. They will also be putting together a newsletter/newspaper. Look for it here in a couple of weeks!

Victorian Poetry

Investigating Newspapers

The Year 9 class have begun their third unit which will focus around the Unit Question, “How do newspapers communicate with their readers?” and the Significant Concept, “Newspapers share information, events, and opinions in specific styles and formats.” For their summative assessment they will be colloboratively creating their own newspaper. A Wrinkle in Time

The Year 8 class has begun reading “A Wrinkle in Time” and will be examining the various scientific facts and theories that can be found within the novel. Their Unit Question is “How is science used in ‘A Wrinkle in Time’?” and their significant concept is “Good science fiction novels are based on scientific facts.” Their summative assessment will be a research essay on one of their choice of the scientific facts and theories in the novel.

Unit 2 Summative Assessments Completed!

Year 8 and 9 students have completed their Unit 2 Summative Assessments this past week. The Year 8s have written some amazing and entertaining short stories while the Year 9s have written thoughtful argumentative essays.
